FDS - Fire Dynamics Simulator
|
FDS is a computer program for modeling fire and smoke flow. The software solves numerically a form of the Navier-Stokes equations appropriate for low-speed, thermally-driven flow with an emphasis on smoke and heat transport from fires.

Key Features
 |
- Predict the transport of heat and smoke from a fire
- Program contains a smoke detector activation model
- Able to calculate fire related phenomena such as radiative and convective heat transfer, sprinkler activation and sprinkler sprays, and mixture fraction combustion model
- Multiple mesh capability allows for great flexibility in designing simulations
- Parallel processing option available

Description |
The NIST Fire Dynamics Simulator predicts smoke and/or air flow movement caused by fire, wind, ventilation systems, etc. FDS is a computational fluid dynamics model of fire-driven fluid flow. The Fire Dynamics Simulator has been used for many types of problems like sprinkler activation in warehouse fires, tenability in residential fires, and smoke concentration in outdoor pool fires.
